The Upland Fire Department
Swift Water Rescue
On May 6, 2005 the Upland Fire Department initiated its first Swiftwater rescue training and certification process. This was the first step towards creating a Swiftwater rescue team. Since this time, a total of 10 Fire Department personnel have been trained at the technician level. This training included, water safety, ropes, knots, rescue systems, rescue operations, and swimming techniques. The department is currently in the process of developing policies and procedures to mitigate water incidents within the City of Upland as well as resource needs within the County.
Equipped with wet suits, personal flotation devices, helmets, and specially designed water rescue devices, the Departmentís Swiftwater Rescue personnel have the ability to create land-based water rescue systems, as well as to perform water-based contact rescues, in order to save victims trapped in the natural and man-made waterways in the City of Upland and neighboring communities.
