The Volunteen Program is a 10-week volunteering program for individuals between the ages of 14 and 17 that runs from June to August. Volunteens will have the opportunity to broaden their horizons and experience what it means to help out their community.
Volunteens will assist Recreation staff with youth attending the Recreation Division’s aquatics programs, day camps, sports programs, classes and special events at our local parks and schools. Other volunteering opportunities will be available after the completion of the summers sports programs and classes at no additional cost.
The program will culminate with a recognition event at the end of the program year, April 2013.
What you need to do: Complete “The Volunteen Interest Form” which will be available beginning April 1, 2013. This form MUST be completed by the candidate and returned to the Upland Recreation Division Office by Thursday, May 9, 2013. Late requests will not be accepted. Candidates will be interviewed by the Recreation Coordinator. If accepted into the Volunteen program, they will be required to visit the Human Resources Department to complete a City Volunteer Application and complete the final processing steps. Parent(s) and accepted Volunteen MUST attend one of two orientation meetings. The Volunteen must also attend a training/meeting where they will receive valuable information about the program and City policy. All other trainings/meetings are optional, but are a valuable part of the program. Training will include instruction in job responsibilities and ethics, customer service, time management, First Aid/CPR certification (Family and Friends Program), safety, crafts and games. Volunteens will set up their own schedule and receive their T-shirt at the Volunteen orientation training/meeting. Dates, times, and locations for meetings and orientations will be included in the registration packet. Space is limited…sign up early! Payment is due upon return of the “Volunteen Interest Form” to the Recreation Division Office. Financial aid is available for qualified applicants. (Proof of income is required.)
