Children's Services
Amelia the Library Dog

Our four-legged “Labrarian” is a Labrador retriever who has been working at the Upland Library for 10 years now--since she was 8 weeks old. Initially in training to be a guide dog, Amelia was chosen to be a breeding dog for Guide Dogs of America in Sylmar. She grew up among the storytime kids, then had pups of her own—3 litters—then was released by Guide Dogs and formally adopted by children’s librarian, Ann-Marie Biden. We estimate that Amelia has heard over 10,000 stories while working at the library.

Amelia has been a registered therapy dog with the Pet Partners program for 7 years. She visits senior centers, schools and the West Valley Detention Center, but her “home away from home” continues to be the Upland Library. If you see Amelia at the library, you are welcome to pet her as long as you ask first!
